Your Annual Health Blueprint – What Labs, Scans, and Tests Are Worth Your Investment

If you’re investing in your health like it’s your most valuable asset—because it is—you deserve more than the standard check-up and a generic blood panel.

True prevention and longevity start with precision. With the right blueprint, your annual health evaluation can move beyond reactive care into proactive optimization.

The Power of Knowing What Matters

I’ve seen it too many times—patients come to me with stacks of labs and still feel unwell. Why? Because most testing is incomplete or misinterpreted. It’s not about doing more tests—it’s about doing the right ones, in context, and with someone who knows how to read between the lines.

So let’s cut through the noise. Here’s the blueprint I use with my concierge patients to make their annual assessments powerful, precise, and deeply personalized.

Labs That Actually Tell the Story

  • Advanced Lipid Panel – Go beyond total cholesterol. Look at ApoB, Lp(a), LDL particle size, and inflammatory markers to truly assess heart risk.
  • Inflammatory Markers – hs-CRP, homocysteine, ferritin, and fibrinogen are quiet indicators of long-term disease risk.
  • Hormone Panel – Especially critical for women in perimenopause and menopause. Test estradiol, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone (total and free), and cortisol patterns.
  • Thyroid with Antibodies – TSH alone doesn’t cut it. Include Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies (TPO and TgAb).
  • Metabolic Panel + Insulin – A1C isn’t enough. Get fasting insulin, glucose, and HOMA-IR to assess insulin resistance early.
  • Nutrient Levels – Test for B12, folate, vitamin D, magnesium, and ferritin to optimize energy, cognition, and immune strength.

Scans Worth the Investment

  • Coronary Calcium Score – A $100 scan that shows early arterial plaque before symptoms ever appear. A must for longevity planning.
  • Body Composition (DEXA or InBody) – Understand your muscle mass, visceral fat, and bone density. Metrics that matter more than weight alone.
  • Thermography or Ultrasound for Breast Health – Especially for women who want an adjunct to mammography or avoid unnecessary radiation.
  • Brain MRI (if symptomatic) – For patients with cognitive decline, brain fog, or post-concussion symptoms—TMS may follow based on findings.

Tests That Get Overlooked — But Shouldn’t

  • Stool Testing – Your microbiome influences everything from hormones to immunity to mood. Worth exploring if you have gut issues, fatigue, or autoimmunity.
  • Genetic Testing (Clinical) – Not 23andMe entertainment. Think clinical-grade genomics like MTHFR, COMT, or ApoE for decision-making in medication, nutrition, and lifestyle.
  • Sleep Studies (even at home) – Snoring, fatigue, or mood swings? Don’t overlook sleep apnea. It silently drives disease in high performers.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

This is where true concierge medicine shines. Your testing plan should reflect your goals, risk factors, family history, and current symptoms. At Modern Human, we tailor every blueprint—there’s no “standard panel.” Because your life, body, and goals aren’t standard either.

Some patients test quarterly. Others twice a year. Some go deeper with neurocognitive assessments or continuous glucose monitoring. It’s not about volume—it’s about strategy.

The Bottom Line

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start leading your health with intention, this is your invitation. Don’t wait for a diagnosis. Build the data map that lets you course-correct before things go wrong.

Your annual checkup should be a launchpad—not a box to check. Ask better questions. Demand better data. And work with someone who treats your health like the high-value asset it is.

You deserve a physician who reads your labs like a language—and uses them to write a strategy built just for you.
